Director
The DSD™ Director is a Microsoft Windows application used to configure and manage the DSD™ system. It provides the end-user with a sophisticated user-interface to easily manage the complex operations of DSD™. The Director application can run from any number of end-user computers concurrently, and is the window into DSD™.

Agent
The DSD™ Agent is a Microsoft Windows service that coordinates the Director; it requests DVR data from the Probe, analyses the results, and stores the processed data in the database. The DSD™ Agent service is installed on a single computer called the DSD™ Host.

Probe Agent
The DSD™ Probe Agent is a Microsoft Windows service that communicates with a DVR and collects data about its operating status. It also evaluates the quality of the images captured by the DVR's surveillance cameras. The Probe Agent is installed on a single computer called a Probe.

Multiple Probes may be required, working as a group, to accelerate the retrieval of data from thousands of DVRs. A single probe can usually handle 250 DVR’s in a day.

DVR Interface
The DSD™ DVR Interface is a software driver that permits a Probe to communicate with various DVR brands. Each brand of DVR requires a unique interface. A single Probe computer is equipped with one or multiple interfaces so it can communicate with many brands of DVRs.

Database
The DSD™ Database used by DSD™ is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and resides on the Host computer. DSD™ requires the Workgroup edition, or higher, because it uses Reporting Services. The Database stores all data collected by the Probes and is managed by the Director.

Watchdog
The DSD™ Watchdog is a Microsoft Windows service that monitors the health of the DSD™ Agent, Probe Agent, and Database, and it resides on the Host computer. In the event of a problem, the Watchdog will notify all administrators via email.
